Door handles are an important part of the door furniture. Its looks, location, ease of function and its accessibility are all an important consideration. Door handles typically use a mechanical system with a screw axle referred to as the spindle that has a flat section fitted through the door groove. The handles or knobs are then fitted on either side of the door fastened to the spindle to enable opening and closing. Different knobs have extra complexity and functionality.
The entrance door handles are usually used for the doors furniture that lead to the outside of the house. The knobs come with a locking mechanism for security. The privacy knob locks will usually not come with a cylinder locking system. The security features are not major since the main aim of the door furniture is to enable privacy as opposed to security. Closet door knobs on the other hand do not have a locking system. They are used on hall ways and for closets door furniture. The knobs are used for pulling and returning the door. Dummy handles are used more for aesthetic beauty as opposed to functionality. Such handles are placed on electric doors, ball catch doors or spin doors.
Whilst you may have spent hours helping your grandparents polish the fireside companion set, when it comes to your door handles, the best way to keep your polished brass door furniture looking shiny is with plain and simple warm soapy water and a soft cloth. The polished brass ranges we supply have all been treated with a special lacquer, and the use of metal polishes or other abrasive cleaners will damage this and cause it to wear away far quicker than it would under normal use. Eventually after a good few years of use, this lacquer may well breakdown, at which point, you should remove the door handle or pull, and treat it with an acetone thinner applied with a soft brush. Dry well with a soft cloth and then polish up with a metal polish. Regular polishing thereafter will keep them looking great.
